This 6 book series teaches the basic high frequency words that beginning readers need to learn to recognise, understand and use. For some children the retaining of basic sight words to the level of instant recogntion comes easily, for other children regular refreshment is needed. To give students opportunities for effective learning the activities in each of the books in this series involve repetitious use of the words in a variety of ways, and hands-on activities which include cutting and pasting, sequencing the letters to make the word, cloze sentences and writing the words. The introduction gives notes on how to use each book in the series, tracking sheets to record students' progress in learning the vocab. Each set of activity sheets for a word can be photocopied and cut into its separate activities for maximum learning opportunities. Aferwards a small booklet can be made for each word, that can be read and re-read for further reading reinforcement. Books 1-4 introduce the first 100 basic sight words (used at the Magenta and Red Levels of the PM readers). Books 5-6 the next 56 most commonly used sight words.
