Ernest Rutherford became interested in science at a very early age. He enjoyed experimenting with gadgets during his boyhood and won scholarships to Nelson College and Canterbury University. Rutherford won many honours throughout his career and he made, or shared in, some of the most important discoveries made about the nature and structure of atoms.
