Apirana Ngata was of Ngati Porou descent and, although he was small in physical stature, he became a giant among Maori leaders during the first half of the twentieth century. He served as a Member of Paliament for 38 years becoming its longest serving member but he also had many other interests and worked in several differnt fields. These are stories of 30 of New Zealand's most famous people including their childhood and education, the paths that led to the achievements for which they became well known and their influence upon New Zealand's history and culture.
