Mapping Activities begins by looking at New Zealand's geographical position in the world, comparing it with other countries in similar and dissimilar positions, moves on to look at some of its place names and how they came about, its physical features and climate and that's just the first few pages. Throughout it encourages students to develop and use their mapreading skills and interpret data. There are activities using directions and distances, how the land is used and demographics (the study of population and the movement of people). This excelllent resource also looks at tourism in our country and how many people come here and how the dollars are spent. Students get to use mapping skills, do research, mathematics and write their own conclusions on comparisons as they complete these activities. Shipwrecks around New Zealand are pages which encourage students to do research and develop these skills. Suitable for middle primary students and upwards.

The revised edition, released in March 2012, covers the same content but uses more up-to-date figures from tourism, census, etc.
