About this title.

This resource, divided into chapters, has your students making working models and investigating the types of water in their surrounding environment, where it comes from, what happens to it and the plant and animal life that is a part of it. Simple ecology and mathematical skills are used in activities such as recording data from observations, measuring water depth, water flow and water quality. In the first chapter the students first do an activity where they learn just how much freshwater there is on our Earth. In ensuing chapters they look at catchments, aquifers, lakes, wetlands etc. Examples are also given of different types of New Zealand waters - eg Lake Taupo , the Waikato River, the Avon-Heathcote Estuary. You also learn simple ecology terms and the Latin and Maori names for some of our plant and animal life. Suitable for years 5-8.
