A fun simple story about a taniwha who is evicted from Awahou Pa because he snores too loudly. He swims across Lake Rotorua to Mokoia Island where he finds a place to stay. However his snoring wakes up the people and they yell and shout at him to go away as he keeps them awake at night.
A young boy Te Raki becomes his friend and takes care of him by finding him a hiding place where he won't be found. One night when Hoha is still awake he sees some enemy waka approaching Mokoia Island. He opens up his big waha and roars and roars to warn the people. They rush to their waka and fight off the enemy.
Hoha becomes a hero and is given his very own whare and a taonga. He lives happily on Mokoia taking the children for rides on his back and playing with them.

This story is suitable for children from 2 years of age to 12 or older.
