No New Zealander has earned greater love and respect from both Maori and Pakeha alike than Peter Buck. He graduated from Medical School in 1904 and he served as a medical officer in various parts of the North Island achieving a great deal in the improvement of Maori health and hygiene. He was elected to parliament in 1909 and became a strong spokesman and worker for the advancement of Maori people. These are stories of 30 of New Zealand's most famous people including their childhood and education, the paths that led to the achievements for which they became well known and their influence upon New Zealand's history and culture.
