This teachers' guide, which accompanies the emergent readers in the ELF (Early Learning Friends) series, outlines the text and features of each book, along with ideas on using the readers and the big shared books and black line masters outlining activities. The guide includes the following: Section 1 A general introduction to the factors affecting the teaching of beginning reading.
Section 2 An overview of the rationale, components, structure and use of the ELF emergent readers, plus useful resources.
Section 3 An explanation of assessment using ELF emergent readers.
Section 4 The purpose behind using ELF shared big books.
Section 5 A step-by-step approach for each reader including pre-reading activities, introducing the book, what to do when reading the text and after reading the text, plus BLM activities. Also include the text of each reader, the discourse structure, syntactic pattern and interest and basic words.
